Laser surgery has come a long way.  There are many ins and outs of laser surgery.  Jim had his surgery done by a good local doctor that we all know.   He charged more, but we all knew his reputation and didn't mind paying more.  I wanted to get surgery, and I thought that I might want to use the same doctor.  I called and made an appointment for a consultation, and was able to get one for a week away.  Tara wanted to go with me, so I made it for later in the day, when she would be off.   We got to the office and waited for a good hour at least before we saw the doctor.  He was surprising old.  Later, we found out that he was over 80.  In fact, he was 87 years old.  His name was Dr. Callahan.  Stewart Callahan.  His brother was a member of my diabetes support group.  His brother, Mr. Callahan, is 95 years old and is training for the Chicago Marathon.  He can run 7 and 8 minute miles.  So here is his brother still practicing medicine at an age when most have either retired or died.  Tara was a little worried about such an older doctor doing a procedure like this, but I wasn't.  Not after knowing his brother for so long, and writing so much about him.
