SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE LIGHT OWL

Saturday night at the Light Owl, I met this gorgeous woman named Helena.  She said she was from Washington, DC originally so I asked her if she had ever heard of my old college friend, Craig Lasik.  No, she said, that didn’t ring a bell.  She was pretty sure she didn’t know any Lasik in Washington.  Really?  I was pretty surprised, because Craig had really gotten around.  But I understood a little better when Helena said she went to a public high school, not a private one.  You see, Craig went to St. Fellowship Academy, one of the top high-society schools, right there in the Georgetown area.  He had decided to go to California to college, so we were there in Malibu at good old Pepperdine U.  Then Helena said she was working near the club, at a boutique on Broadway.  When she mentioned the name of the boutique, I turned bright red.  It was the same store my ex-girlfriend used to work at!  I hesitated, then plunged ahead.  I asked Helena if she knew Suzanne Layseck.  Thankfully, she didn’t!  OK, now that hurdle was cleared.  We could now talk about sports, the weather, Washington, Washington State, colleges, boutiques, the latest Jellyfish CD, the political scene, TV, or anything that just happened to come up in our pleasant conversation.  Helena was really getting to me and I was thoroughly enjoying myself; I kept my fingers crossed that some stud wouldn’t come by and pretend they were old friends or something.
